How to Take Your Christmas Selfies to the Next Level with the Right Lashes

A good lash lifts the eye, frames the face and gives your camera something to catch. Christmas lashes can be subtle and natural or bold and dramatic, depending on whether you want a cosy family photo or a party portrait.

Let’s take your Christmas lashes to the next level with some recs, shall we?

Christmas Beauty Tips for Lashes

Choose Your Lash

Let’s run through some basics. Choose a natural or wispy lash for daytime gatherings and close family snaps. Full volume lashes, while eye-catching, are best for fancier shindigs. If you’re a Method fan, you already know how to choose the right lash. If you need a little more reading, no worries! Jump into these, and you’ll be a lash expert in no time.

Application and Blending

Now that you’ve got your lashes, you’ve got to know how to put them on. The best way is to apply lashes close to the natural lash line and use a thin line of liner to hide the band. Press gently and use a spoolie to blend natural lashes with the false ones. A tiny drop of water on the tip of a cotton swab can soften glue residue when you remove lashes later (but do not soak the band!)

Here’s a pro tip. Practice placement a few times before the big event so you can apply quickly and confidently on the day. You can do this without any glue, of course.

Lighting To Avoid and Prefer

Ever wonder why photographers go all out and fuss over lighting? That’s because it matters. When taking selfies, avoid sheer overhead white light and harsh fluorescent fixtures because they flatten features and cast unflattering shadows. These also make your face look shiny (and oily) - and who wants that?

Instead, use soft, diffused light from a ring light or a window facing you. Warm fairy lights or candlelight add a festive glow, but check your camera white balance so lashes do not appear too dark or lose detail. You don’t have to shell out extra cash for a dedicated light. Sometimes, simply looking for warmer lights can help take your selfies to the next level.

Cold Weather and Lash Care

Cold, dry air can make natural lashes brittle and may affect adhesive retention for extensions. In winter, keep lashes hydrated with a lash serum or conditioner and avoid very hot showers that can weaken glue… even though it’s just soooo tempting.

If you notice your lash glue isn’t cooperating, try tucking it inside your pocket or cupping the bottle with both hands. A little body heat will make the glue so much easier to work with.

Removal and Safety

If you wear extensions, have them removed professionally to avoid pulling natural lashes. For strip lashes, gently peel from the outer corner and clean the band with a dedicated lash remover. Do not force removal. If glue feels stubborn, soften it with a little oil-free remover and wait a moment before trying again. Never ever yank those lashes!

Get Those Selfies Sorted

Yes. It’s 2025. But, hey, a little selfie knowledge never hurt anyone.

First, think about the angle and the frame. Hold the camera slightly above eye level and tilt your chin down a touch to open your eyes and show off your lashes. Why? This is kinder to the jawline and makes lashes look longer without needing extra length.

Move the camera a little further away and use the zoom rather than cropping in afterwards to avoid distortion that can flatten lashes. If you are using a front camera, tap to focus on your eye so the phone exposes for the face rather than the background. Many phones will let you lock exposure, ensuring the lashes stay sharp across multiple shots.

Next, use light to flatter both your eyes and the lash detail. Remember our eareluer tip! Softer lights will have a better chance to look good - naturally, without extra effort.
